About this opportunity
This role is for someone ready to take on more responsibility at the Community Food Hub.
As a Co-op Lead Volunteer, you will be a go-to person during sessions, helping coordinate activity, support other volunteers and keep the co-op running smoothly.
You will work closely with the Food Hub Manager and Head of Food & Partnerships, taking ownership of your sessions and helping build a strong and reliable volunteer team.
This is a valuable stepping stone towards senior roles in community food work, charity operations or related fields.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead during sessions by directing volunteers and keeping activity moving.
- Support the Food Hub Manager with session coordination and volunteer tasks.
- Help track available stock, shortages and future requirements.
- Maintain simple session records, including numbers served and feedback.
- Act as a first point of contact for volunteers during sessions.
- Maintain food hygiene, safeguarding and health and safety standards.
- Help induct and support new volunteers.
- Communicate updates and concerns clearly after each session.
What you’ll bring
Essential
- Some experience volunteering or working within a team.
- The initiative to keep tasks and people organised.
- Clear, calm and confident communication.
- Reliability and the ability to attend regular sessions.
- An understanding of safeguarding and food hygiene principles.
Helpful but not essential
- Experience at a food bank, food co-op or community kitchen.
- A Level 1 or Level 2 food hygiene certificate.
- Experience coordinating or supervising volunteers.
- Knowledge of Hackney or a similar community.
