About Children With Voices
Children With Voices is an award-winning, community-led charity based in Hackney. For almost twenty years we have worked alongside children, young people and families, providing early intervention, SEND support, alternative education, community food programmes and opportunities that help people thrive.
Recognised through national awards, including the Pride of Britain Community Hero Award and the Prime Minister’s Points of Light Award, we’re now entering an exciting new phase of growth and strengthening our Board to help shape our future.
Help guide our next chapter
As Volunteer Chair of Trustees, you will provide strategic leadership to our Board and work alongside the Founder & CEO to help guide the organisation through its next chapter.
Your leadership will help strengthen governance, support sustainable growth and ensure that Children With Voices continues to create lasting opportunities for children, young people and families.
Key responsibilities
- Chair Board meetings and provide effective leadership.
- Support good governance and strategic planning.
- Work closely with the Founder & CEO while maintaining appropriate governance oversight.
- Support the recruitment and development of trustees.
- Champion the work of Children With Voices through your professional networks.
- Help ensure the charity remains financially sustainable and well governed.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who:
- Has leadership or governance experience.
- Thinks strategically.
- Values collaboration and community.
- Can provide constructive support and challenge.
- Is passionate about improving outcomes for children and families.
- Can commit 8–12 hours per month.
Appointment details
- Volunteer position.
- Approximately 8–12 hours per month.
- Six Board meetings each year.
- Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
- Initial four-month introductory period, with a longer-term appointment agreed by mutual consent.
Expenses & DBS
Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the charity’s Expenses Policy.
An Enhanced DBS check is not needed before appointment but may be requested where the role involves regulated activity with children or vulnerable adults.
